Manually save notes taken in Apple Notes

Hello community,

In the last month, I've been using Apple Notes a lot. However, from the last week it started not to save my last edits, especially last Sunday, in which out of 2 hours of works it saved only the first 20%. So, I'd like to know if there is any way to manually save, or make it auto-save each time there is an edit.

I take my notes only with Apple pen, on my iPad 9th generation. Thanks a lot!

The attached video shows that if I go to another note and then return, it won't save the last edits (fortunately, it's only 2 lines this time). I can know if it saved every edits by exporting that into PDF in any way there is (I used the marking one, but it's the same result with printing option) Issue video

Thanks for the answer!

  1. No I didn’t, I’ve just enabled that now, when ill write lots notes I will try that
  2. There are currently 2 accounts, one is iCloud one, the other one is my gmail
  3. My iPad is WiFi only, it happens both when it’s connected to my home WiFi or Hotspot and when it’s not connected to anything

Again, thanks for the response, I will let you as soon as possible if the issue is solved! Have a nice day

Hi PHICross,

Thanks for the video and great explanation of the issue. This action does seem to be unexpected. Let's see if we can determine what could be happening. Here's a few items to check:

1. When you go to Settings > Notes > "On My iPad" Account > Is this enabled?

2. In Settings > Notes > Accounts > Which Accounts show Notes are being stored with?

3. When you are noticing this issue are you connected to Wi-Fi or cellular network?

We went ahead and tested this scenario on an iPad, not connected to the network, Notes stored in iCloud. With 1. from above enabled, and we were able to view the change when going back from another note.

We also noticed the left side bar moved the current note typing on changed to "Today".

If 1. is not enabled, please enable and test again.

Let us know what you find out.

Thanks!

Hello!

Unfortunately, it didn't save my last edits even if I put "On My iPad" on and moved all these files into "My iPad". This time I left the note like 5 - 10 minutes on without any changes before changing to another note and then go back to this one (Yea, I didn't understand Chemistry much so I was in deep thoughts for 5 - 10 minutes but this is another story). Could it be an iPadOS 17.0.3 bug? Since I don't remember I had this issue before and there are actually also other bugs, like when you write something manually with square grids the writings will go behind the grids and will remain so until you move on or down the page. Could you suggest me other ways to fix this?

The iPad is 9th generation 128GB with 1st generation Apple Pencil, "On My iPad" is enabled, iPadOS 17.0.3, 2 accounts are connected to Notes, the default one is "My iPad", this time I am connected to my phone's Hotspot, but it happens both with Home Wi-Fi and without any connections.

I also discovered that even if I copy the unsaved part, quit Notes and then get in, it won't let me paste. Basically, I can copy and paste many times I want if I don't quit Notes or switch to another note (but it won't save unless the following situation), but once I quit or switch, I can't paste it anymore.

However, sometimes if I write down some notes with keyboard (so making a break between all the handwritten notes) and then copy-pasting the unsaved notes below the notes with keyboard, it can save...

I hope you can understand since I'm not good at expressing myself and I'm not an English native speaker

Hi! Thanks for the quick reply (Mine is not, sorry! It has been a busy week)

I was about to contact Apple Support this morning, however, with iPadOS 17.1, this problem seems like solved: I wrote meanwhile another long document, which had the problem of not saving the last edits until this morning, when I found that everything is smoother and that it saves correctly everything. I upgraded to iPadOS 17.1 yesterday morning, however I did not try it until this morning.

Anyways, thanks for the help y'all gave! Have a nice day
