Disabling video reactions on MacBook Pro Monterey

I have an MacBook Pro that is on 12.7 Monterey. Since it's from 2015, I can't update the OS any further. However, I now have video reactions on Facetime and Zoom, even though all the documentation I can find says they only exist on Sonoma. Apparently, that's not the case.

Since I'm on Monterey, I can't disable the reactions through the Facetime icon in the upper right during a Facetime call, as the internet says you're able to do on Sonoma.

This feature is more of a bug for me - it's really distracting and unprofessional. How can I disable it on Monterey on an older MacBook Pro?

They are not just confined to Facetime - if they were, then the potential for professional embarassment would be limited.

They are in fact enabled by default in any app that uses your video camera, including Zoom, Microsoft Teams, and also any Citrix Sessions in which you might use a video conferencing application. I experienced this just half an hour ago while in a Windows VDI via Citrix, in a meeting with senior directors discussing sensitive strategic issues.

Unfortunately, there is no global way to disable them - in each respective app, you have to click on the green icon in the MacOS menu bar, and disable reactions there. And I am not yet sure whether that preference remains for any subsequent sessions - if not, then I'll have to seriously consider whether Apple operating systems are suitable for professional use.
