iPhone won't print after iOS 17 update

For those using handyPrint: unfortunately the publisher Netputing and their website has disappeared, so it seems that updates to make it compatible with iOS 17 may not be forthcoming. (See this Reddit thread.)

I couldn't print from my iPhone to handyPrint after upgrading to iOS 17. I just downloaded and installed Printopia and it's working fine again. There is a free 7 day trial so I will see how reliable it is before paying, but it looks like this is regularly updated as it promises iOS 17 compatibility. Works just the same as handyPrint.

Update the Printer's Firmware:

Who's the Manufacturer of the Printer? If the printer has a small LCD screen on it, then go into it, and update the firmware directly on the printer. Epson has released new firmware, and once I updated it directly on the printer, printing worked just fine.

I have been able to print on iOS 17 without issue from my iPhone 13 Pro, but my wife was not able to from her iPhone 13. But it’s working now. Here’s what I did:

1) Open Settings->Wifi

2) Next to the WiFi you are connected to, select the “i” inside of a circle. This will open the settings for your connection to that specific network

3) Find the toggle for “Private Wi-Fi Address” and disable it

4) Try to print something. At this point, her phone started printing again

5) Go back into the settings and turn Private Wi-Fi Address back on

6) Try printing again. Her phone continues to print now.

It was finally able to use my printer by turning off my VPN.

Although I was doubtful about upgrading the printer firmware, it actually fixed my problem on a Brother laser printer.

My guess is that Apple moved to a newer version of a printing protocol that is not backwards compatible, and all the manufacturers have to provide a firmware upgrade that implements that version of the protocol.

Changing the privacy on my wifi network allows me to print! Thank you Kevinsja!

However....as soon as I turn private network back on, I cannot print again. So I have to do this every time. I hope they fix this soon! It's very annoying!

P.S. I have an iPhone 11 Pro, using ios 17.2.1 and printing to an Epson WF-3540.

I was having the same issue, my iPhone would print until the latest update was installed. I tried several of the recommended fixes but nothing worked until I went into Settings and turned off my VPN then it worked as advertised. Go figure!!

I tried powering down every thing again but this time I waited a very long time before turning it all back on and this time is seems to have worked. So maybe the key is leaving the router, printer, and iPhone power off for at least three minutes before powering them back on?

Thank you! I was having the same issue, and the solution you suggested worked perfectly well. Disabling Private Wi-Fi made the trick. And yes, after turning it back on it continued to work! This is something we might have to do in the future every time there’s an iOS update I’m afraid, so this solution is very good to know.

I turned off my VPN and I was able to use the printer on my network again. When I finished printing I turned my VPN back on.

Bingo!!! I had tried everything listed in this thread and more, no joy… my wife’s iPhone (same phone and update) works fine. WTH? Turned off my VPN and now it prints… fyi, I am using AVG VPN. Apparently the printer firmware now wants to know you are in the same location?!?

Mine is a Canon MF264dw. Updated the firmware and it start printing from my iPhone. Do not need to switch off "Private Wi-Fi Address" at the WIFI setting. Thank you very much!!!

I had same issue with it appearing and disappearing after i chose printer.

I updated the firmware on my canon printer. Then it could print again.

Solved my Issue

The firmware update on my Canon fixed the issue.

I followed these steps and it fixed my issue on my Iphone 13 and HP printer. I was able to turn Private Wi-Fi back on and airprint is still working fine.

• Try turning off Private Wi-Fi Address: Go to Settings > Wi-Fi > [Your Wi-Fi] and try disabling the Private Wi-Fi Address feature.
