Is 3.7 GB of space enough for a backup?

I recently have gotten a notification that I used up my free 5GB of data so I started clearing out stuff, starting with my photos. I also deleted my backup data, planning to back up my device after I cleared out the unnecessary stuff but it said that I couldn't because I didn't have enough ICloud storage. At the moment, I have 1.3 GB of my 5 GB used. Shouldn't 3.7 GB of space be enough for a backup? Am I being forced to pay for ICloud+ if I ever want to backup my device again?

Hello simonfiretootz,

Sadly, no, 3.7GB of space will not backup a 256GB device.

Alternatively, you can backup to your computer: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Or yes, you will need to buy iCloud storage: Upgrade to iCloud+ - Apple Support

Thanks
