Apple 100% does automatically block contacts. This happens to my 80 year old mother on a near daily basis: I’m blocked, her doctor, my brother… it’s awful. It’s been going on for over a year. I have spent hours with tech support. We have checked every setting. We even bought her a new phone. Hundreds of other people have the same problem. Every morning she has to unblock all of her contacts. It’s outrageous. We’re going to have to start over with a totally different phone, maybe an android? A different number?

For real, Apple is aware of this problem, it’s sitting somewhere in their queue of customer reported bugs, but not enough people have complained, so someone at Apple has decided it’s not worth fixing yet.
