iphone 12 mini disconnects from bluetooth when connected to cord in car

My iphone 12 mini will connect to the bluetooth in my car, but it disconnects the minute that I plug it the cord. This started after I connected the phone to a different car when I was traveling. I have tried turning the phone off, turning off the blue tooth, forgetting the device... Any suggestions? Thank you!
