Lexmark Printer no longer works with update to Sonoma 14.0 which I updated last Tuesday.

Lexmark worked fine until I updated the OS to Sonoma 14.0. I have 3 printers - 2 Epson & 1 Lexmark. After the update none of the printers worked. I was told to delete them and bring them back, That worked fine for the Epson printers but it did not fix the Lexmark 500.


How do I fix it?

I am sorry you are having printer problems. If you will bear with me, I will offer some things to consider. Whenever we install an operating system upgrade or some OS updates, printers and scanners will often stop working. Then a new OS compliant printer software must be installed. What you can do is to thoroughly check the printer web site for an updated driver that works with Sonoma. If one is not available, then you should ask when one will be released. If that doesn't work, if the Printer has the Air Print feature, that can be used and no driver will be needed. If not, then you can check the respected web site below where volunteers write free drivers for older printers which are no longer supported, but which work with newer operating systems. It is worth checking out. Good luck.

Please tell us any letters associated with the Lexmark printer model so we can help you serach. I can find "X500" on the Lexmark web site but not simply a "500."


Lexmark has been historically poor at Mac OS support. The X500 printer I found shows "discontinued" and the last drive updates shown for any OS were in 2012!!

If you need clarification, you need to ask Lexmark. Since the dawn of personal computing, app/driver developers have been responsible for seeing that their apps keep up with new operating system developments. At least for Lexmark, it seems they chose not to support in the case of some models.



I only see seven Lexmark printer on the Gutenprint page Ronasara links; none have the number 500 in their model designators.

I got tired of screwing around with this trying to get Apple to get it corrected. So I wnet directly to the manufacturer - Primera.

Their customer service solved the problem in 15 minutes.....


It was logical and easy.

  1. Delete the printer altogether.
  2. Go to Primera and download the print driver
  3. re-install the Printer using the Print Driver you just downloaded.
  4. Voila! its printing...
