The Delete command in Messages is grayed out whether I select any messages or not. The only way to delete is to select one message at a time, slide left, hit the trans can, then confirm. Makes deleting more than one message an absolute pain. Select All is also grayed out.
I logged out of Messages, restarted the computer and logged on to Messages again, but the behavior continues.
This is on an iMac running Sonoma 14.0

I found the solution. To delete multiple Messages you need to select them, control-click, and choose Delete in the contextual menu.
It is still strange though that the Delete command in the Edit menu, as well as several other commands in that menu, are inactive in Messages.
