iPhone 15 Pro Max 5X 120mm Zoom

Why does Apple call the 120mm 5X lens a zoom? It does not optically zoom. Zooming from 5X to 25X is a digital zoom.

Why does iPhone 15 Pro Max's native camera app use main lens for 5x zoom instead of 120mm lens? When I’m using the native camera app of my iPhone 15 pro max and if I use the 5x in any mode (photo, portrait or video) it is not using the 120mm lens instead it is just using the main lens. Does the 5x work by cropping the main lens? Just open the native camera app and click on the 5x and cover the main lens and it goes blank. If you cover the 120 mm lens it doesn’t get blank. Optical zoom resolution on iPhone Pro 17's 48MP camera Looking at the resolution on the new iPhone Pro 17. It talks about 48 meg cameras. But I can’t seem to find out if we’ve got an optical zoom which would still have an eight mag resolution. Or is it a mechanical zoom, which would have a lower resolution. iPhone 17 Pro - conflicting technical specs Good day! On the official Apple web page iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max - Apple it states the zoom factor and the image resolution, but several times and the data is conflicting. I quote: "With an equivalent 200 mm focal length, the 8x optical-quality zoom makes this the longest iPhone Telephoto ever — offering 16x total optical zoom range." What is it now, 8x or 16x? Optical zoom is by lens only, and since you cannot add up or multiply zooms of two cameras (main camera has 2x, telecamera has 8x), it's most likely the 8x. But what did they want to tell us by "16x total"?

24mm lens is +1

28mm lens is +2

35mm lens is +3 (iPhone 15 pro)

120mm lens is +5 (iPhone 15 pro max)

Thanks for responding. Are you saying that on the 15 Pro Max everything in between 1X & 2X AND 2X & 5X is optical zoom?

Yes like on the iPhone X x2 zoom was an optical zoom...
