Cover to Mute function

Hi Experts

I want to understand cover to mute function inside the sound and haptic

Its toggled on.

If i want to mute my incoming call. i see that we have to touch the palm on the screen to mute it. (Initially i thought we need to just hover the palm on screen for 3 seconds) but later i have realized we have to touch the palm on screen.

My queries

  1. When i touch the palm on the screen even for 1 sec. it will mute my call and displays turns off. To make the display lit again. i have to tap the screen to pick the call.

1.a. So firstly does resting the palm on screen during incoming call. Screen display will turn off. is it expected behavior.

1.b. Do we need to rest the palm on screen for 1 sec to mute the call?

I have tested my palm for 3 sec on the screen during the incoming call. it will enable the silent feature. and disconnect the call immediately.

As per cover to mute watch function it should silence my incoming call only.

in my case it is enabling the silent mode in my watch along with disconnecting the call.

Please explain.

Hi garg.rishav,

Welcome to Apple Support Communities. The cover to mute feature is geared to only silence alert or notification sounds. There's no information about incoming calls. Specifically it states the following:

To silence an alert or notification as it sounds, rest your palm on the display for at least three seconds or until you feel a tap. If it doesn't work, make sure that the Cover to Mute setting is on: On your iPhone, open the Apple Watch app, go to the My Watch tab, then tap Sounds & Haptics.

This information is outlined in this article: Change the audio and notification settings on your Apple Watch

Kind regards.
