Slideshow of Video won't loop on Airplay

I have mirrored my iPhone to my Apple TV.

I have created an album in the Photos app. The album consist of 1 video, 30 seconds in length.

I open the album, click the (...) icon in the top left, click slideshow, click options, then click the Repeat button Repeat is on.

At this point the video plays on the iphone.

Here are the problems:

1) When it's done playing, it doesn't loop and play again.

2) The Apple TV goes black once the video starts playing.

Both devices have been reset and fully updated. I'm at my wit's end with this problem. I can't understand why screen mirroring doesn't mirror slideshows which consist of videos. And I can't understand why the iPhone is ignoring the fact I've pressed the Repeat option. Help please, before I go Android.

Hello AZsport115,

If you are syncing your photos with your Apple TV, you may also be able to accomplish that task using the steps below:

1. Open the Photos app  on Apple TV, then navigate to the Shared Albums or Albums category in the menu bar.
Note: If you don’t see the Shared Albums category, go to Settings > Users and Accounts > [default user account name], then select Photos and turn on Shared Albums.
2. Select an album, then select Play Slideshow.
3. Select to adjust any of the following settings:
Shuffle Photos: Turn on to show your photos in random order.
Repeat Photos: Turn on to play the slideshow continuously.
Theme: Select a slideshow theme to apply a different style to your slideshow.
Time Per Slide: Select how long to display each photo on the screen.
Transition: Select the transition effect used between photos.
4. Select Start Slideshow.

You can also find those steps in this resource: Create a slideshow on Apple TV - Apple Support

Should that still persist, you'll want to reach out to Apple Support: Apple Support They'll be in the best position to look into this further.

Take care.

Thank you for sharing. That's pretty frustrating that it just stops like that. All I can think to do is make an album with the video I need repeated, add 100 copies of the video to the album, and then play the album as a slideshow. This is very frustrating and it seems there should be a much easier way to do this in 2023! But that's the best idea I have right now. If I come up with a better solution or learn why your ipad disconnects, I will circle back.

Do you know if your ipad disconnects from airplay at the same time (after the same amount of minutes) or at the same place (after the same amount of slideshow repeats for example)?

I create slides and videos for a client to show in their office waiting room.

I upload them to their iCloud Photos using the PHOTOS app on their MAC computer.

Their iPad is used to Airplay to an Apple TV, both of which are on the same wifi network, located in their waiting room, only 3 feet away from each other.

The PHOTOS app on the iPad was used to create an Album containing the slides and videos that should play in a particular order.

We first have the iPad Airplay to the Apple TV using Control Center on the iPad

Then we launch the PHOTOS app, select the Album we want to Airplay, start a slideshow, and tap options on the bottom right, select the speed we want each slide to to show, which does not effect the videos in the album, they play their entire length, and select DISOLVE for the transition, and REPEAT.

The slide show has about 80 still photos and 20 short animated ads, in MPG format.

It plays fine and repeats a couple of times, then for some reason it just stops, and the Airplay disconnects.

We then have to set the IPad to Airplay again to the Apple TV, and restart the slideshow, several times a day.

The Airplay 'slideshow' has stopped with a photo, or a video on the screen, and the Airplay has stopped.

The iPad and Apple TV both have the latest IOS, each has plenty of memory.

What format and resolution is the video you are using?

My files are all formatted to 1920x1080, Videos are MOV or MP4, some 30 seconds, others 3 minutes.

Most videos are under 100mb.

Again, sometimes it will play and repeat a couple of times, other days it only plays once.

I found this on the web that I believe I have already tried to remedy the problem:

"Why does my AirPlay keep going black?

Sometimes, many apps keep running in the background on your devices and cause RAM issues. That's why AirPlay does not work on your devices. So clear your RAM, and shut down all apps by turning off your devices and restarting them. Go to your device; press the power off button for 2 to 3 seconds."
