LG tv crashes when using Apple TV+ app on AppleTV 4K

EVERY time we watch a program on the Apple TV+ app via AppleTV 4K, our LG tv crashes. Within the first three minutes of playing any program, the tv completely turns off by itself (we cannot manually power it on or off), waits 5-10 seconds and then restarts itself. However, our AppleTV 4K doesn’t crash, and neither does the Apple TV+ app. Instead, the program pauses at the point when the tv crashed.

We experience this issue with ONLY the Apple TV+ app. Our LG tv is less than five years old, and we never had any problems with our LG tv, AppleTV 4K or any AppleTV apps until September 2023, and then, only with the Apple TV+ app alone. The issue is also getting worse bc it only crashed our tv once, but this week, when watching various shows, the tv crashed at least four times during each show. We’ve reset the Apple TV+ app, deleted & reinstalled it on AppleTV 4K and reset our LG tv to the factory settings. None of these methods resolved the issue.

its DOLBY VISION! Yea, I looked up how to fix the issue for weeks! Tried to change the power board in the TV and just said screw it after if failed, to get a new tv. There’s something wrong with the LG CX series in specific with DOLBY VISION. I sold my tv for like $400 with the honesty that it’s great for games and tv, as long you don’t watch anything in Dolby vision and they were totally cool with it. Just get a new tv, it sucks but if your warranty is out your screwed.

Hopefully this can help someone out. Turned out my LG TV was still under warranty so they had me do all the troubleshooting all over again. The last thing they had me do was factory reset and change my time zone. It worked for about a day then LG issued an update. As soon as I updated it froze and crashed. I went ahead and factory reset with changed time zone again, then did a hard reset and it’s been running great. Note the one thing I have done yet is NOT HOOK UP APPLE TV. Going to do that in the next day or so, but kinda don’t want to do since my gut says it will crash at least until Apple issues another updated. Here are my notes.

8Jan - TV factory reset, different time zone. On 730 AM using Pluto streaming until 1400. Manually turned off. No external devices offer that network connected. 7 hrs run time.

8Jan - Added Sonos Arc (HDMI 2) Simplink activated, time 1645. Installing apps. You Tube wanted to be able to turn on via WiFi, I disabled it. 2230 turned off TV. 6 hrs run time.

9Jan - turned on 1630. Turned off 1710. Turned on 1940. LG pushed update 04.50.53. Updated. TV froze using Youtube 2008. 20 mins run time. Unplugged, hard reset, rest 40 mins. 2100 started TV. 2126 tv froze. 26 mins run time.

10Jan - Factory Reset using LA location time 1648. Installed Apps. 1730 tv froze and crashed.

10Jan - Hard Reset 1800. Turned off 10pm. No issues. 4hrs

11Jan - Turned on 1930. Turned off 2230. No issues. 3hrs.

12Jan - Turned on 0730. Turned off 0815. No issues. 45 mins.

12Jan - Turned on 1015. Turned off 1300. No issues. 2hrs 45mins

12Jan - Connect 4k Panasonic DP-U8820 (HDMI 3) Turned on 1345. Turned off 2300. No issues. 9hrs. About 11hrs all Day!

I have the same issue. Something was updated in the TV and C1 Oled LG from Jun 2021. The external devices as Apple TV and Google TV start showing as OTT Apple & OTT Google at some stage of 2023 and ant that moment the problems started. I can plan Xbox Series X for hours with no issue, it is only with these devices recognized as OTT. Not going with LG ever!

I experience some similar problem watching air TV. TV would crahs.

Even since the last Apple TV updated tvOS 17.2 my LG OLED65CXAUA TV will Freeze, then power cycle 3 times and not turn back on unless I unplug the TV and reset it. Without the Apple 4K TV connected no issues. I even ordered a new HDMI cable in case it was bad, and still within 9 mins of having Apple TV on, it crashed my TV.

I have the same issue as the rest of the group. Since the last Apple TV update, when I am watching on my LG OLED TV the Apple TV randomly crashes and shuts the TV off. It pauses whatever I was watching and then I can power the TV back on, but it will happen multiple times while streaming. I do not have this issue when using a PS5 or 4K player on the same TV. It's definitely latest update and LG OLED issue.

Same here. It's happening for me since months ago not only with last update (or maybe I have to say interface cause no new app for my 2018 4k LG TV). No problems with other platforms apps.

If the problem continues I will unsubscribe.

I have this exact same problem with my Apple TV 4K, and LG oled, I think it’s a CX. Had it for a few years, and my Apple TV 4K ( have had since 1/20/23) never had any issues until the last month or so, I’ll be streaming off Netflix or any streaming app on the Apple TV and TV will go black and become unresponsive, the Apple TV still working cus I can hear the sound and click the remotes buttons and hear what’s going on. I have to unplug the TV completely to have any access to it. I will play my PlayStation 5 ALL DAY and never have issues like this.
