I can't use my iPhone 13 mini because it is stuck in "screen reader" mode. Everything I try to input gets intercepted and is read back to me aloud. There is no way I can get into my phone. Can anyone help me?

Everything I try to input to my iPhone via voice or using my fingers is read back to me aloud by the screen reader. It will not allow me to access anything on the phone. If I try to shut the phone down, it goes into Emergency mode and dials 911. It has already done that three times. I'm afraid the police will come to my house and I will be charged with making frivolous emergency calls.

Hey frank1461,

It sounds like you've accidentally turned on VoiceOver. Here's how to turn it off: Turn on and practice VoiceOver on iPhone - Apple Support

Turn VoiceOver on or off

Important: VoiceOver changes the gestures you use to control iPhone. When VoiceOver is on, you must use VoiceOver gestures to operate iPhone.
To turn VoiceOver on or off, do any of the following:

* Go to Settings  > Accessibility > VoiceOver, then turn the setting on or off.
* Use Control Center if you’ve added it there.
* Use Accessibility Shortcut if you’ve set it up.

Siri: Say something like: “Turn on VoiceOver” or “Turn off VoiceOver.” Learn how to use Siri.
Siri knows when VoiceOver is on and often reads more information back to you than appears on the screen. You can also use VoiceOver to read what Siri shows on the screen.

We hope this helps.

Take care!

You have solved my problem with my iPhone and you have saved me from having to make an expensive and time-consuming trip to have someone help me with it! Thank you all very much!

I am a bit embarrassed at having made such a simple mistake by turning "VoiceOver" on and not knowing how to get out of it. It was like being in a horrific nightmare and not being able to wake up!

I even contacted Apple Help and went on with a representative for over a half-hour with no success. After I got out of the problem, however, another Apple rep got back to me and apologized, because they said that the rep should have known what the problem was and how to solve it.

At any rate, I have the use of my iPhone back again, thanks to a video I found in desperation on YouTube.

Thank you all for your help!!!
