iPad Pro backup to Finder on Mac never seems to complete

When I try to backup my iPad Pro 10.5 in Sonoma it just spins after I click backup. Black and gray stripes in the progress bar. Backing up to a MacBook Pro M2 Max with 64G macOS 14.0

In the iPad settings under iCloud>iPad name, the device says it was backed up to iCloud lastnight. However, when I plug the iPad into my Macbook via USB and look in Finder, there are no backups shown. I have tried viewing the backup folder directly via Finder>Go>Go to folder, this file path: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/ The folder is empty, despite the iPad saying it was backed up. iPhone backup on finder stops MacBook 12” Big Sur IPhone 13 Pro iOS 17.1.1 Hi fellows, when backing up my iPhone on Finder, the backup suddenly stops as is I just plugged the iPhone to MacBook at that moment. Finder shows ONE backup ONLY. Why? Finder, under the General tab, Manage Backups... drop down window, ALWAYS shows ONE (iPhone) backup only. I do NOT backup my iPhone using iCloud. I backup by connecting a USB cable, via iTunes/Finder. I can perform two manual backups using Finder, one after the other, but ONLY the latest backup is ever shown in Manage Backups... But that is NOT what this says: Locate backups of your iPhone, iPad and iPod touch – Apple Support (UK)

Perhaps your Mac lacks sufficient storage space to do a complete backup of your iPad?

Currently, my older Mac and iCloud accounts have insufficient space for me to do full, complete backups of my 256 GBs iPad Pro.

I have to selectively, manually, backup chosen iPad data to my Mac and iCloud.

You may have to do the same thing.
