Using Iphone 12 photos changed in September to HEIC format, need them in jpeg

Iphone 12 Around the beginning of September my photos format had changed to HEIC and the only way that I realized that was when I downloaded my photos from Icloud to my PC I could not open them and it indicated I had to download the HEIC app, I need them in jpeg to view on my PC, how do I change these about 200 photos to jpeg format

iPhone 6s, iOS 13

You can try this. On your iPhone, go to settings>photos and scroll until the bottom. You should have an option for "Transfer to Mac or PC" and select "Automatic".

When you transfer your photos now, it should transfer them in the most compatible option, in this case jpeg.

Have you tried it?

Otherwise, I believe for windows there is a free HEIF extension, on Microsoft Store, for your built-in Photos software, that will allow you to see those photos and save them in jpeg.

Eventually, you could also access to your iCloud page online and dowload them from there, as explained here: Set up and use iCloud Photos on your Windows PC – Apple Support (UK)

Thank you. My iphone is set up as automatic in the photos in the transfer to pc place, but they don't. I go into my icloud that is on my pc and manually download pictures to my laptop in folders. This is not the problem though, about 200 pictures are transferred in HEIC to my pc from icloud and not in jpeg form. I changed the setting on my phone after I discovered this format change and pictures I now take (automatically uploaded from phone to icloud) are in jpeg, after I changed the format on my phone for pictures from high efficiency to most compatible, jpeg format, this is all confusing to me, sorry. I think I will get the HEIF extension so I can view the pictures and save them in jpeg format. Thank you for taking time to reply
