When capturing long exposure images of aurora with a brand new iphone 15 pro max, an artifact of several circles is in the middle of each photo, and to be quite frank, ruining them. No filter etc.
what could be causing this?

I had this happen recently with the Auroras. I shot dozen of time exposure images and it seems the ones that were handheld had circles. I used a tripod for others without the circles. I also cranked the night mode to max on many of the images. My theory is the built-in stabilization or a reflection due to long exposure.

Did you use a camera app? I've never seen it on an iPhone

Nothing obvious that explains it.
Can you find a Norwegian iPhone photography newsgroup, if it was an Apple Store in Norway you could attend the free photography sessions...

No apple stores here. Unfortunately no iphone photography groups either, thats why I was turning to this fora.

The iPhone 15 pro max is brand new so if people are experiencing artefacts in photos they will be surely post in this newsgroup
I have the same issue with a regular iphone 15 — taking pictures of aurora and what i thought was the reflection of the camera lens in the phone case but i took off the case and it was still there.
