Lost Photos after Installing Sonoma

After installing Sonoma OS 14.0, virtually every photo I have taken and photo album I created for the past YEAR have disappeared from Photos , except, weirdly, for a handful of scattered photos from this time. Basically, every photo and video I've taken from Oct 2022 to present is missing. The photos are still on my iPhone, thankfully, but how can I restore these photos/videos? Help!

tropicalista,

If you're using iCloud Photos you may try checking out the iCloud website to see if the affected photos are present there.

This can help to see if they're missing specifically from the Mac or from iCloud as a whole. If they are present on the website then you may proceed to download them from there.

If needed the iCloud site can be found here: iCloud

Cheers.

Hello tropicalista,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities.

The Apple Support article that you started with explains how you can check the Recently Deleted album. If the photos you are looking for were recently deleted, follow these instructions to attempt recovery: If you're missing photos or videos in the Photos app.

You may also want to check that the photos were not added to the Hidden album. Go here for more information: Hide photos on your iPhone, iPad, or Mac

Please reply back if you need more help.

Cheers!

Hi Greeenhouse, I'm wondering about that, too (the help)! I did find all my "lost" photos in the iCloud, but still haven't moved them from there to my MacBook Photos. The only way I see is to download from the cloud, then go to Photos and then import them from the Download folder. Seems like kind of a roundabout way to do it, not to mention time consuming, so I've just left them in the Cloud for now. If you hear of an easier and simplier way, please let me know!

Hello, no, the photos were not deleted nor were they hidden. These photos suddenly disappeared after I installed Sonoma 14.0. The odd thing is that it appears to be mostly just the photos of the last 12 months or so--entirely gone. Earlier photos (taken before Oct 2022) seem to be pretty much intact. I've noticed others in this community encountered this same problem after downloading Sonoma. It would appear there is some glitch in this program that is doing this. Do you know of other remedies to this problem?
