ITunes has stopped syncing with IPhone since installing IOS 17 - Software Update is not available

I have an IMac mid-2011 running El Capitan 10.11.6 and ITunes 12.8.2.3.

IPhone 12 with IOS 17.0.3

I have always been able to sync with my IPhone, and use ITunes to manage a lot of music, audiobooks etc.

Since the update to IOS 17, the IMac/Itunes no longer syncs. When the IPhone is connected to the Mac, an notification says an update is required. After a minute or two, the below appears. This has been the case for several weeks.

I would like to update the IMac / ITunes to be able to recognise the IPhone. Is it likely that the software update will be available soon?

Alternatively, I would like to know how else I can continue to manage my music and other media between the computer and phone?
