Black loading screen over and over on MacBook Air

MacBook Air - I needed get an updated version of Safari to run faster to do a project. Since after sign in goes to black screen w/ loading symbol for 29mins then restarts and it’s the same cycle again and again. I’ve tried all the hacks for a black screen and nothing works….?( such as holding down certain buttons and such). I think I need to do a factory reset but can’t loose the items in computer. What options do I have to get my computer back???

Hi!

Sounds like a bootloop? restarting?

Is it intel or M1/M2?

It seems too early for erase & install.

Try safemode : intel: Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support

on M1/M2 just hold the power button ~10 sec after shutdown.

If you need a backup - please try this first:

needed:

EHD (external HardDrive or USB w/enough storage space)

on your Mac, or another Mac, go to recovery mode

(Use macOS Recovery on a Mac with Apple silicon - Apple Support

)

and install MacOS on EHD.

StartUp EHD with ALT (OPTION) and see if you can find the internal HD (Harddrive).

Copy HomeFolder to EHD.

Contact AppleCare for assistance if needed.

E&I (erase and install) may be a solution, but let's see if we can get into recovery (see above) and use "First Aid" to check for disk errors.
