iCloud video - share with streaming?

Hello,

I know I can upload a video to iCloud Drive via Finder and then right-click to share it via link.

For the recipient this involves downloading, and then playing it.

Is there a way to simply click and stream (watch) it directly?

Many thanks!

Hi coxorange,

You can share videos with an iCloud link on the iCloud website. This article has the steps: Share photos and videos with an iCloud Link on iCloud.com.

"You can share photos and videos in Photos on iCloud.com with an iCloud Link (not available in all countries or regions). Anyone with the link can view them.

Note: You can only share photos and videos in your Personal Library on iCloud.com. To share an item in an iCloud Shared Photo Library, use the Photos app on a device with iOS 16.1, iPadOS 16, macOS 13, or later.

Share photos and videos with an iCloud Link

  1. In Photos on iCloud.com, select the photos or videos you want to share.
  2. Click the More button, click Share, then do one of the following:
    • Choose Email Link, enter one or more email addresses in the To field, then click the Send button.
    • Choose Copy Link, then click Copy Link. Share the link with friends. For example, you can paste it into a Messages conversation."

Take care.

Hi giantcat

Thanks for your answer.

Even if the video is downloaded from that generated mini-website, the recipient only gets a version which is cut to 15 minutes. The recipient can't watch the full movie.

Also I noticed the resolution is reduced to 720p, and the data rate is reduced from 10.5 Mbps to 2.95 Mbps (similar to YouTube quality 🙄).

So this is of no use for sharing videos with original quality.

I can upload the original video to iCloud Drive, but it can't be viewed, only downloaded, THEN viewed, as said before.

Is there an alternative, where the original (without any reduction) can be played directly?

iCloud is great and I even would pay extra for that!
