Is your Dad no longer around? If he is the ideal solution would be to have him create a brand new Admin account for you, or to change your existing Standard account to one with Admin privileges: Add a user or group on Mac - Apple Support.
Another option, if he agrees to transfer ownership of that Mac to you: What to do before you sell, give away, trade in, or recycle your Mac.
If your Dad is no longer around then the only real solution is to erase that Mac and upgrade it to the latest macOS version available. To do that, start with Use Disk Utility to erase an Intel-based Mac - Apple Support. When reinstalling macOS, choose this startup key chord that will offer the latest version of macOS compatible with that Mac — probably macOS 12 "Monterey".
- Option-Command-R: When you press and hold these three keys at startup, macOS Recovery might offer the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac.
That procedure is described in How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support, under "If you're using any other Mac."
For reasons that are not entirely clear reinstalling macOS "High Sierra" is no longer an option.
