"HELP changing or deleting an administrator on my. now grown son's computer!"
-------
Account Management:
"Hi, I bought my son's computer when he was in high school, and he is now in college and apparently I am still set up as an administrator which is preventing him from downloading necessary software for classes.[...]"
Don't Share your Apple Account:
He should be his own administrator, with his own Apple Account. You can use Family Sharing to get it all. If you delete your own Administer Account, then you'll lose it all, if you do not back it up. So, export what need be, and then create a new Administrator Account, transferring.
Getting Into a Mac:
"[...]I have NO IDEA what my admin user name and pw is for his computer. [...]"
A. Find the User Name in Terminal:
- Go here: If you Forgot your Mac Login Password - Apple Support
- Scroll to: Use the reset options in Recovery
B. Resetting the Password:
- Go Here: If you Forgot your Mac Login Password - Apple Support
- Scroll to: Use the reset options in the login window
C. Not Being Able to Reset:
If you can't reset it, then you'll have to reset it to Factory Settings:
- Go Here: If you Forgot your Mac Login Password - Apple Support
- Scroll to: If you can’t reset your login password
D. IMPORTANT:
Write all of this down, and create a Recovery Key for the Mac to avoid this in the future. Go here: Set Up a Recovery Key for your Apple Account - Apple Support
Not Seeing this in your Apple Account:
"[...]I see myself as administrator, but when I look on my Mac to see what computers are associated with me, his serial number does not show up. I am baffled. We have tried every possible iteration of username and password we could think of, and now.. I simply do not know what to do. His computer is running on Ventura 13.5.1. HELP!!!"
Who is the Seller? If might to belong to anyone, and if so, that would mean it was Factory Reset. Or, if purchased through a third party, then it would be associated to their account, presumedly.
