If you are meaning the Last Security Update for Monterey

Apple has Generally issued Security Updates for the last 3 versions of macOS and for about 3 Years since the date of Release.

As Monterey was released Oct 27, 2021 , then add 3 years to that, would mean about October 27, 2024 would be the end of Security Updates

and if i wanted to use the updates of sonoma, i would have to buy a new mac?

To use Sonoma macOS 14 you need one of the computers listed in like below

Notation - Some devices and depending on the computers age may have little to no value at Trade In time.

But at least the device will not arrive to the Land Fill Site and be recycled in a responsible way by Apple

Or Shop Refurbished Apple computers at an Apple Reduced Cost

Have used both previously and have been satisfied each time.

None at the moment

Have Traded in iPhone 12 for iPhone 14

Traded in Intel MBA for M1 MBA and then traded in M1 for M2 MBA

Traded in ancient iMac 2012 for M1 Mac Mini

Traded in 2011 Mac Mini to zero value but at least it did not go to the Land Fill Site 😃
