Duplicates of my reminders in Reminders app an ongoing issue

I like many of the features of the reminders app. I check off the reminders on each device since I am not seeing the information being processed across my devices in a timely manner. I like that I can duplicate a reminder on my iPhone 14 just by typing the beginning of the title. I have rebooted my devices on a regular basis. I find many duplicates and remove the dates and wait a little while and then delete them from group. I confess to having to do this process more than once this morning. For a time, I moved them to a Deleted Reminders group. Thanks for your help. I work regularly with an iPhone, iPad Pro, and iPad Air.

pathsmith,

This page can assist with providing some suggestions to help out with getting the Reminders app to sync across the devices via iCloud: If your iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders won’t sync - Apple Support

Things to check first
1. Check the system status of iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders for services outages or connection issues.
2. If a reminder isn't showing up on some of your devices, make sure that your iPhone and iPad have the latest version of iOS or iPadOS, or that your Mac has the latest version of macOS.
3. Make sure that you're signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID on all of your devices. Then, check that you turned on Contacts, Calendars, and Reminders in your iCloud settings.
4. Check that the date and time settings on your device are correct for your current location.
5. If you use iCloud for Windows to sync your Contacts and Calendar with Outlook on your PC, make sure that you've updated to the latest version of Windows. Then follow these steps to sign out and sign back in again

Set iCloud Contacts, Calendars, or Reminders as your default
If your contacts, calendars, and reminders are in iCloud, then iCloud automatically updates your information. If your information is in a third-party account, like Google or Yahoo, you can change your default account to iCloud. Changing your default account to iCloud won't move your existing information from a third-party service to iCloud.

Hey there pathsmith,

We'd like to help by learning more about what's happening, along with ruling out some basics:

  1. You mentioned that it takes some time for checked off reminders to sync across all three devices, so that means they're still syncing. How long does it take for the checked off reminders changes to sync across all three devices?
  2. When did this start to occur, and has a restart been tried for all three devices since it began? If not, check out: Restart your iPhone and Restart your iPad
  3. We see you have iOS 17 installed on your iPhone, but the latest version is iOS 17.0.3. We also don't know which iPadOS versions are installed on both iPad models, but the latest version would be iPadOS 17.0.3. You can verify this within each device under Settings > General > About. In case you needed it, this link shows how to first back up, then update: Update your iPhone or iPad

Cheers!

All my devices are the latest version of IOS 17.0.3. I have an iPad Air, an iPad Pro and iPhone 13. I fairly regularly restart my devices. I appreciate that I have created confusion by adding the reminders on the three devices. In the past I have turned off the reminders and downloaded them again. It just took quite a while for my device to get current. That probably is the solution combined with patience to wait for the devices to synch. On my iPad Pro, I have three different copies of the reminders.

I wanted to understand and see the process that was happening. So yesterday, I placed “iPad Pro” on the reminders in each group on my iPad Pro and “iPad Air” on the reminders in each group on my iPad Air. And I did see them show up on the other devices. So they are propagating. I removed them today.

Another problem came to mind that periodically, the reminder app doesn’t want to start. I swipe the app up and restart it and it doesn’t start. I sometimes reboot and continue to swipe the app up and start it. I sometimes get a black screen and it might start. Sometimes swiping down and choosing a reminder causes it to work. Any other suggestions.
