Further, on your iMac when it is connected to WiFi, Option-click the WiFi icon in the menu strip in the upper right of your desktop. You will get a dropdown box with a bunch of network information Pls. tell us what it says for:

  • Channel
  • RSSI
  • Noise
  • Tx Rate

Still in that same dropdown box, click Open Wireless Diagnostics. When the diagnostics window appears, DO NOT click Continue. Instead, in the menu strip (upper left of your desktop) click Window > Scan. Let the network scan run until it completes, then tell us the following:

  • Best 2.4 GHz
  • Best 5.0 GHz
  • The number of networks that are using the same channel that your iMac reported in the dropdown box.

Then Quit Wireless Diagnostics.
