AirPods call controls settings keep changing back to the standard settings when customizing

I try to customize my AirPods call controls settings such that Mute & Unmute is "Press Twice" and End Call is "Press Once". However, the settings keep changing back to the standard settings. Anyone else having the same issue? How can this be resolved?

I spoke to support on the phone and they said it is a known issue that is due to be fixed in a future iOS update.

Don’t drive yourself crazy trying to find a solution, there isn’t one and the admins on here are not helpful enough to admit that.

this is a game of patience I’m afraid.

Yeah this is just BS advice ! It works for a day and then Apple switches it back it's beyond infuriating to have settings mandated without having the choice

Hello sondremenes,

Thank you for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.

Let's reset your AirPods and test to see if the issue reoccurs:

"You might need to reset your AirPods if they won't charge, or to fix a different issue.

  1. Put your AirPods in their charging case, and close the lid.
  2. Wait 30 seconds.
  3. Open the lid of your charging case, and put your AirPods in your ears.
  4. Go to Settings > Bluetooth. Or go to Settings > [your AirPods].
    • If your AirPods appear there as connected, tap the More Info button  next to your AirPods, tap Forget This Device, then tap again to confirm.
    • If your AirPods don't appear there, continue to the next step.

5.Put your AirPods in their charging case, and keep the lid open.

6.Press and hold the setup button on the back of the case for about 15 seconds, until the status light on the front of the case flashes amber, then white.*AirPods charging cases

7.Reconnect your AirPods: With your AirPods in their charging case and the lid open, place your AirPods close to your iPhone or iPad. Follow the steps on your device's screen."

Additional details can be found here: How to reset your AirPods and AirPods Pro

If the issue persists, can you provdie a few more details? Which device do you have your AirPods paired to? What OS is it running? Also, when did you first notice this.

Cheers!
