Content in Mail slow to display

Mail loads, but does not show the content in the viewer window. The preview shows, so the content is loaded and there. If I hit forward or reply, the content will even show in a new email. The header is there, but the content window remains empty, often for several minutes or more, and then it will suddenly appear And then sometimes it works right away. Sometimes the content will temporarily disappear even on messages that have been opened before, but when I go to look at them again, the content is not visible.

No problems with mail (same accounts) on other devices, so this is not an internet or mail server problem. It is a Mail problem.

I've seen this raised many times in forums, but have yet to see a solution.

Monterey on a 3.4GHz with 40GB of RAM.

iMac, OS X 10.11

Try opening Mail with the Shift key held down. Does the at make any difference?

If not give this a try: boot into Safe Mode according to How to use safe mode on your Mac and test to see if the problem persists. Reboot normally and test again.

NOTE 1: Safe Mode boot can take up to 3 - 5 minutes as it's doing the following;

• Verifies your startup disk and attempts to repair directory issues, if needed

• Loads only required kernel extensions (prevents 3rd party kernel/extensions from loading)

• Prevents Startup Items and Login Items from opening automatically

• Disables user-installed fonts

• Deletes font caches, kernel cache, and other system cache files

NOTE 2: if you have a wireless keyboard with rechargeable batteries connect it with its charging cable before booting into Safe Mode. This makes it act as a wired keyboard as will insure a successful boot into Safe Mode.
