How to convert webloc to url?

The resource fork on the webloc breaks the xmllint command posted at the link you referred.

If you save the webloc files to an ExFAT drive or somehow remove the resource fork, the xmllint command posted by VikingOSX should work.

You could batch them all into a script that extracts each and writes to a file.

How do you want to do this? A webloc file is just a property list file. Anything that works with a property list file should work. You can drag it onto BBEdit to see the plist data. If you are handy with the Terminal, you can do:

plutil -extract URL raw /path/to/file.webloc

Sadly, AppleScript is beyond my skills...

Windows 11 no longer lists .url files as valid file types. Something to consider if that was your target operating system, since Windows Internet Location files are unsupported on macOS.

The .webloc files only contain a URL string. You need a means to extract that string and append it to the Internet Location File format (further discussed here) and optionally assign the .webloc name string to the Comment field:

Here is a Quick Action Shortcut where you right-click on a .webloc, choose Quick Actions > Webloc to URL and a Microsoft Internet Location File is written to the Desktop as foo.url. The line-endings in this file are CRLF which is what Windows expects.

cat -v foo.url

Shows the CRLF line-endings as ^M.

When you right click a webloc file choose open with, then choose 'other'. Then choose TextEdit and it will open for viewing and editing.
