When I open any file in Numbers I cannot just select one cell in order to enter new data.
Here is a screenshot Think I’ve done something but don’t know what or how to correct it
Same files on iPhone open and can be edited which then update on iPad via the cloud as normal.

Have you tried tapping the EDIT button at the upper right before trying to make changes?

Not sure I follow. If EDIT is displayed then you need to tap it first before you can make changes.

Have you tried powering down your iPad completely and restarting?

Yes that’s what it is. This is what I get when opening any file in Numbers.
Edit button is already tapped.
It is tapped.
Please look at the screenshot this shows the status when I open a spreadsheet in the application.
