Verifying Genuine AirPods:
Apple had 2nd gen AirPods Pro with lightning connection initially when they were first released. They were sold off at a discount in the Fall of 23 and discontinued in favor of the USB-C model.
The Apple website clearly indicates USB-C as the type of connection in the 'case' and 'in the box' descriptions and the picture of the case shown is USB-C. The case I received has a lightning (female) port. I guess that explains the charging cord included in the box having USB-C on one end and Lightning on the other. I purchased them at Costco for a price less than $249. The box indicates they are Airpod Pro 2nd Generation. I think I'll go to the Apple store to make sure I'm purchasing the newest model.

Charging Case Port:
Lightning is the port type that is required. There is a female port in the bottom of the charging case.
