Apple Watch battery drains super fast after 10.1 update.

Series 7 Apple Watch. After 10.1 update my battery only lasts a few hours. I can literally watch the percentage go down. Rebooted the watch. Shut off background app refresh after advised by a friend. Still drains ridiculously fast. It’s essentially useless now. I’m out of ideas. Anyone else have this problem? This is crazy.

My watch used to last two days, even with me running an hour a day. I no longer run and now it drains faster. I have to put it on the charger overnight and again mid-day. Normally, it takes about an hour to charge. But there are days that it takes up to five hours to hit 100%. I haven’t added anything or changed any settings since I got it almost two years ago.

I have an Apple Watch Series 5 and I’m having the battery issue too since this 10.1 update. It not only did that but when I restarted my watch it was stuck on the Apple logo and never turned on. Yes, I did a hard restart but that did the same thing. My watch is completely useless now. I’ve had it since 2019 with no problems until now with this update.

I haven’t even had my watch for 48hrs and what a nightmare. I spent today texting apple support and scouring the internet whenever I had a free moment at work. My battery was dropping 1% every minute, of which I was texting Apple support each time it dropped for their records. Thanks to comments in this thread, I was able to charge my watch on low power mode (otherwise it was plummeting while ON the charger). Then I removed every single app that I could from the watch, and deleted the 3rd party watch face app entirely (Moby). Battery appears to be acting as it was the first 18hrs I had it before installing 10.1, and I have it on the charger now. Charging normally with NO overheating. Fingers crossed I’m in the clear.

Hello guys, a bit late to the party, but here’s my feedback too….

I was having similar issues - nuts that Apple have given us an update that wrecks our -very expensive - watches! Does no-one test these things???? After installing iOS 10.1 my watch went down to 67% in about 10 mins, slowed down draining when back on charge but was still going down.

Anyway, I deleted all 3rd party apps, unpaired, re-paired, popped it back on for a full charge and - so far - all seems ok. 20 mins in and holding 100%.

Hope this helps.

After going through all the suggestions everyone has tried, the only thing I found that worked was to roll back the update to watch os 9 and start over. Running thing is that when I did that the watch went back to 10.1 but a different build. If you have the option to roll it back do it. If not, you may be still waiting for the patch( or update) to fix yours. DEFINITELY A SOFTWARE ISSUE!!!!

There is nothing hardware related to the watches. Hopefully this helps.

FYI, I started day with 100% at 7:15 est and now my watch is at 100% at 9:46 est.

Good luck.

This exact same thing was happening with my Apple Watch 8, then I saw here that someone mentioned about deleting the MobyFox watch app. I did that last night when my watch battery was already down to 70% after being fully charged only an hour before and not worn! Seems to be doing the trick. My watch (not currently being worn and not on the charger) is at 60% now from that 70% after about eight hours, which is far more reasonable. For two days straight after the 10.1 update, my watch was going from 100% to 0% in three hours, even when left unworn! I’m going to wear my watch today to see how it goes. Thank you to those who figured this out! I have not deleted all 3rd party apps, just MobyFox (and Buddy Watch for good measure) and it seems to be working. I still have the Starbucks app, and a space app. For anyone who hasn’t updated their watch yet to WatchOS 10.1, maybe hold off until 10.2. This has been a real pain!
