Apple Watch battery drains super fast after 10.1 update.

Series 7 Apple Watch. After 10.1 update my battery only lasts a few hours. I can literally watch the percentage go down. Rebooted the watch. Shut off background app refresh after advised by a friend. Still drains ridiculously fast. It’s essentially useless now. I’m out of ideas. Anyone else have this problem? This is crazy.

My watch used to last two days, even with me running an hour a day. I no longer run and now it drains faster. I have to put it on the charger overnight and again mid-day. Normally, it takes about an hour to charge. But there are days that it takes up to five hours to hit 100%. I haven’t added anything or changed any settings since I got it almost two years ago.

Not sure if that is what worked for me, but after spending all day yesterday not charging above 7% (which is when it would turn back on and immediately begin draining), I unpaired and set up as a new watch, not paired to my backup, and tried charging it again this morning and it's up to almost 40%. Still not charging as fast as it used to, but at least it's charging. Hopefully I can put some third party apps on it again, not that I had too many. But I may wait a couple of days for it to stabilize.

Updated to 10.1 yesterday, and ever since the watch has been draining about a percentage a minute. I tried a hard reset, that didn't work, then I unpaired it and restored it from a backup, that also didn't work. I finally erased it and set it up as a new watch, which didn't work. I guess I’ll have to wait until Apple releases a patch to fix this. Apple Watch SE.

I did not have the Moby App so that wasn’t my issue. My Ultra version 1 with 10.1 had the spinning logo with dots where the watch face should be. Watch was hot, draining fast, etc. I shut it down and reset it a few times, set it up as a new watch with no luck. So, I left it alone for maybe three hours on the charger and it now works perfectly. Hmmmm, perhaps it was an Apple server issue???? Something got fixed behind the scenes. That’s the only possibility because I didn’t do anything!!

You are not alone. I am seeing tens of thousands of users (including myself) reporting battery stability issues on various Apple watches after updating to Watch OS 10.1. There is clearly some sort of bug or complication within the new update that excessively drains the battery.

Some common recommendations I’ve noticed are to uninstall all third-party (non-Apple) apps from your watch, and to charge on Low Power Mode. These recommendations clearly hinder the convenience and efficiency of owning an Apple Watch, but it will at least prevent potential damage to the battery’s overall health.

This is absolutely insane. This update has been available for some days now and Apple has yet to release formal communication that apologizes for, or even acknowledges the battery problems with 10.1.
