Apple Watch battery drains super fast after 10.1 update.

Series 7 Apple Watch. After 10.1 update my battery only lasts a few hours. I can literally watch the percentage go down. Rebooted the watch. Shut off background app refresh after advised by a friend. Still drains ridiculously fast. It’s essentially useless now. I’m out of ideas. Anyone else have this problem? This is crazy.

My watch used to last two days, even with me running an hour a day. I no longer run and now it drains faster. I have to put it on the charger overnight and again mid-day. Normally, it takes about an hour to charge. But there are days that it takes up to five hours to hit 100%. I haven’t added anything or changed any settings since I got it almost two years ago.

Yes I have developed and QA'd on realtime critical infrastructure operational systems, business ERM systems, and database systems, where innovation is required and errors/sloppy work is NOT tolerated. Additionally, when changes go into operation on these systems, THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY TO ROLLBACK (just in case). Also, deleting apps on watch, then phone, is among first steps to eliminate coupling between watchOS AND iOS.

That response covers every possible option of what is not known about how to fix watchOS 10. The bottom line is watchOS 10 broke many watches for unknown reasons.

No, the bottom line is that your watch is broken for unknown reasons. watchOS 10.1 works just fine for most people. It's very frustrating when you're in that minority but that doesn't mean that an update will magically fix your problems.

No, the bottom line is that I know more than just my watch has been broken by watchOS 10. While it does work fine for many people, I know of many other cases where watchOS 10 does not work properly and there seems to be no solution and no option to roll back.

Based on the credentials you asserted above, you obviously know more than I do and even more than Apple does about their product. So, I will endeavor to stop making suggestions to you.

Excellent post and thank you for the link. I urge everyone to submit their comments to the link.

You should absolutely encourage anyone who has concerns to post feedback. I'd be willing to bet money that the fact that huge numbers of people probably submitted feedback about the issue with custom text tones made a difference. That was, without question, an iOS issue and Apple fixed it.

I have noticed a marked decrease in battery life since updating my Ultra to 10.1. Battery used to last about 1.5 days. Sometimes I could even squeak 2 days out of it. Now it barely lasts 24 hours. I had the same experience when I updated to 10.0. I rebooted the watch after that and that resolved the issue. However, a reboot after 10.1 update has NOT resolved this problem.

So I had hoped it might be MobyFace, but it hasn't been for me. Series 7 watch, 86% battery capacity, but will barely charge with background refresh off and no third party apps installed. The default watch face and the Mickey Mouse one because the default is too busy for me. When I take it off the charger, it drains at ~1% per minute! After spending 30 HOURS on the charger, it did make it up to 80% charge, but within half an hour was down to 50%. I've had it cleared with the Genius Bar there is no damage and hoping my tech support escalation will lead to it being sent in and repaired as a software problem that is killing my watch unless they put a patch out before then and I can get it charged over 50%. I've tried unpairing and repairing without restoring from backup to no avail. Apple really stuffed it up on this update.

Yeah sadly it’s not consistently linked to MobyFace but it could be any other 3rd party app. I uninstalled most of my apps like UPS. FedEx, Audible and many others and the watch has been working well today. So it’s really unknown which app or what is creating this mess except one fact which is it all started with the 10.1 update

Ok so today was my testing day and so far so good. I have the Ultra 1 and after the 10.1 update it was not charging past 70% and was dying within minutes. I spoke with customer service and they gave me the old run around and said they would escalate my case and call me the next day. They called me 3 hours late or our scheduled appointment and repaired nothing. I did find a post stating to remove moby fox watch app. I removed that and my watch has been operating fine. Full day of use and it’s only st 76%. Hopefully this work around keeps it fixed until the next update.

After deleting 3rd party apps, my watch appears to be back to functioning normally.

However>>>I just got off the phone with Apple Support and there is NO record of this issue that the agent could find and she said I'm the first person to call in about this. It might help escalate this issue if folks call in to complain!!

Same for me. Series 6, been working great. No issues at all. Did the update and charged overnight. I got up the next day and put it in. Within 2 hours it was dead. I just figure I’d not had it on the charger correctly. No big deal. Charged it that night and put it on the next day. Same thing…dead in 2 hours. Got home and taking HOURS to charge, and even then taking overnight to charge to 100%. Reset watch and tried again. Nope. Still dying in two hours. I’ve seen some say get ride of the MobyFace app so going to try that.
