Apple Watch battery drains super fast after 10.1 update.

Series 7 Apple Watch. After 10.1 update my battery only lasts a few hours. I can literally watch the percentage go down. Rebooted the watch. Shut off background app refresh after advised by a friend. Still drains ridiculously fast. It’s essentially useless now. I’m out of ideas. Anyone else have this problem? This is crazy.

My watch used to last two days, even with me running an hour a day. I no longer run and now it drains faster. I have to put it on the charger overnight and again mid-day. Normally, it takes about an hour to charge. But there are days that it takes up to five hours to hit 100%. I haven’t added anything or changed any settings since I got it almost two years ago.

Same. I read about this last night and removed Mobyface and reset all my settings back to how I had them. It charged overnight and while it's still draining faster (down 9% in a little under 3 hours), it's not dead by now.

There's still issues with Watchos, but getting rid of Moby seemed to help a LOT.

Lately been a lot of battery issues with every OS update, you'd think someone would track those.

Question is, when will Apple fix 10.1 battery drain? Should I return this week old Ultra 2?

It is likely that there are multiple causes for people experiencing unusual battery drain. Given that most people don't seem to have this problem, it's also less likely that watchOS is the primary cause. This is unfortunate because it means Apple can't "just fix it".

I saw several complaints the last few days as well. i noticed that myself and was working with apple support too. they did all the normal tech shooting and then sent it to the engineers. I use mine for medical purposes and for falls because of seizures so its important to me. I told them that i noticed it happened with the last update. I can charge mine all night and as soon as I pick it up its drained in about an hour.

Apple has access to data that we don't. There could be a problem with watchOS 10 and a subset of Apple Watches with some common thread of a component that is not used universally across all watches.

Yes, it could be. Or, it may not be. My point is that people should not stop troubleshooting and just wait for Apple to "fix it". Apple may be able to fix it with an update. Or, they may be able to fix it for some people with an update. Or, it may be something that can't be fixed by an update. We simply don't know.

There have been several responses from level 9 and 10 folks on these forums with watchOS 10, where they recommend choosing the right tool for the task. Therefore, if Apple no longer fits your needs because an update irrevocably broke your watch, then so be it. Apple does not care, otherwise there would be an option to rollback to the previous (pre watchOS 10) version that worked on your watch. Apple has basically bricked many watches and they don't care (or choose not to respond in a timely and effective manner).

The they dont care part is simply not true. Actually i was told by tech support if they needed to remove the update they could as a last resort but troubleshooting and collecting data was better for a fix. which is usually correct for tech issues. I opted to continue troubleshooting even though i use mine for medical purposes like falls and such. after a couple more days of troubleshooting I may opt to see if I can go back but they do care if for nothing else because business, stocks and money depend on it.

That response covers every possible option of what is not known about how to fix watchOS 10. The bottom line is watchOS 10 broke many watches for unknown reasons. There is nothing more Apple or I can do to troubleshoot my watch. They have no options other than selling me a new watch with a net minimum cost of $400 after trade-in. It should be Apple's core value to release a major update that meets their historical reputation of excellence. So far, watchOS 10 is not a good example for some unknown subset of users. As a good faith gesture and humility, Apple should provide an option to rollback. I would be very happy if my S4 could be rolled back to watchOS 9.6.3.

Tech support specifically told me "they do not support" removal of the update nor rolling back a version of watchOS. I talked to two Apple support people about it--in person and in chat. Therefore, for my issue of rapid battery drain that only happened with watchOS 10 is evidence that Apple does not care. I have spent many hours working with Apple support and none of their ideas helped.
