Apple Watch battery drains super fast after 10.1 update.

Series 7 Apple Watch. After 10.1 update my battery only lasts a few hours. I can literally watch the percentage go down. Rebooted the watch. Shut off background app refresh after advised by a friend. Still drains ridiculously fast. It’s essentially useless now. I’m out of ideas. Anyone else have this problem? This is crazy.

My watch used to last two days, even with me running an hour a day. I no longer run and now it drains faster. I have to put it on the charger overnight and again mid-day. Normally, it takes about an hour to charge. But there are days that it takes up to five hours to hit 100%. I haven’t added anything or changed any settings since I got it almost two years ago.

Power off the watch, place it in the fridge or freezer to allow it to cool down. Don't freeze it... Once it's cooled down place back on charger, this will help it get to 100%. Once it's charged power it up and see if it helps. Mine was in that loop for 3 days, until I cooled it down, which allowed it to finally get past 50% charged.

I intentionally put off updating from ios16 to ios17 until ios17.2 in hopes of avoiding any kind of battery drain issues. But here Im stuck in the same boat as everyone else. My watch7 also updated from 9 to 10 last night and its draining at a rediculous rate now. Normally i can go all day and it will only drain to 80%. It’s at 65% now at 1030. No widgets, no always on screen, has the same watch face it came with 2yrs ago. It actually drained 3 percent while being on charge this morning for 30min while I got ready for work! WTF apple!!

Anyone have an update on this? Mine started having these issues a couple months ago as well. I thought Pokémon go was draining my battery faster but in all the years I’ve had that tracking my activity it hasn’t done that. Even turning that off didn’t help. For a couple weeks it seemed like it had resolved itself but with another update it is back to struggling to make it through the day. I’m at 65% battery only 3 hours into my day.

Early returns on the 10.2 update for me are not good, both of my watches seem to be continuing to lose battery very quickly. I'll keep monitoring it, maybe I'll experience that mythical situation where it's bad at first and then it starts being okay after a few days.

My Apple Watch SE 1st generation that I've had for 3 years has battery health at 80%. Even still, prior to 10 it was getting me through the day, though sometimes barely. But this battery drain issue is so bad that I acquired another SE 1st gen to get me through the day. I bought it used and when I bought it a month ago the battery health was 100%, now it's down to 92%. So if there were any question that this issue is destroying batteries, there is an incredibly strong indication that this issue very much is taking a toll on these batteries.

You shouldn't need 2 watches to get through the day. This is absolute garbage on Apple's part.

That is a battery that needs to be replaced.

You missed the forest for the trees with that response. Yes, the battery is old but it was able to get through a day before the watchOS 10 release and now it doesn't. Further, the other watch was at 100% health a month ago, now is at 92% health while running the 10. It is clear: there is an issue with watchOS 10.2 and battery drain. Talking about anything else, such as a battery needing to be replaced on the watch with 80% battery health, serves only as a problematic distraction in this discussion.

No, I'm focusing on the only objective fact. Until you replace the battery with one that is not past its useful life, you have no way of knowing if there is any other problem and, if so, what it is. But, if you would prefer simply to speculate and complain, by all means, have at it.

My watch has been doing the exact same thing since the update. I can’t use it anymore because it is completely dead after a few hours. I had zero issues before the update. I turned off background app refresh and deleted any apps that I wasn’t using and I even tried airplane mode. It makes no difference and I can watch it go down after to zero after a few hours.

Me too! But mine randomly drains super fast but can’t figure out what is causing it to drain. Thought it was because I answered the phone and didn’t do something to stop it so it drained. The other day I left my phone at home and noticed at 1:30 it was down to 10% and I hadn’t used it for anything special. No exercise no phone no touching it.

Also on 10.2 and my Apple Watch Ultra 2 is plummeting every day since I updated to 10.2. Have to charge multiple times a day and I have relatively little running on the watch, minimal notification from the iPhone, etc.

Disabled double tap and notifications for Walkie talkie (per other recommendations in the community).

Help please.

Me too. My watch went from fine to useless overnight with the 10.1. Can’t get it to charge out even turn on now. Not looking forward to a three hour drive to nearest Apple shop. Five month old and useless. Apple support was not helpful. How can apple ignore this with soo many people having the same experience. Spread the word.

Watch IOS 10.1 did drain my watch (series 5 44mm) battery faster and extra fast when the timer was being used but the update 10.2 seems to have fixed the battery drain issue. While trying to trouble shoot 10.1 battery drain, I also turned off the photo update (as a previous post suggested) and deleted several apps that I no longer use. So maybe a combination of 10.2 update and the removal of some apps fixed my battery drain.

On a side note - the pre-set times in the timer app (10.x) are now a lot harder to read without using my reading glasses. Please apple bring back the larger numbers on the preset times.
