Apple Watch battery drains super fast after 10.1 update.

Series 7 Apple Watch. After 10.1 update my battery only lasts a few hours. I can literally watch the percentage go down. Rebooted the watch. Shut off background app refresh after advised by a friend. Still drains ridiculously fast. It’s essentially useless now. I’m out of ideas. Anyone else have this problem? This is crazy.

My watch used to last two days, even with me running an hour a day. I no longer run and now it drains faster. I have to put it on the charger overnight and again mid-day. Normally, it takes about an hour to charge. But there are days that it takes up to five hours to hit 100%. I haven’t added anything or changed any settings since I got it almost two years ago.

Try disabling one of the following:

Watch>Settings>Display & brightness > always on>turn off ALL complication updates under “Always on”

OR

Turn off the always on display (also disables complication updates while always on)

Watch>Settings>Display & brightness

it seems like Apple now allows complications to update on the always on display at a greater frequency, which has been chewing up battery life.

Let me know if this works for you.

Heather.

i’m pretty confident that it’s a complication update frequency issue (Both apple and 3rd party).

Can you disable your always on display and let me know if you see any improvements?

If that works for you, and you prefer to have the always on display enabled, you can simple disable the always-on complication updates under the same settings menu.

Mine went from lasting 8 hours to 14+ (Series 5 @ 80% battery health).

I’d love to hear if it works for anyone else, because it’d be an easy fix for apple.

I will no longer purchase Apple watches. It is nearly useless now with the 4-5 hour battery life.

You should always buy the tool that best meets your needs. No one here has any vested interest in your choice.

Meanwhile, I'll continue to enjoy my Watch 6 with its aging battery that gets 24 hours (most of the time) between charges even while using watchOS 10.

I can no longer track a complete surf session on my watch. If it lasts more than 2 hours, the battery dies and I can't even end my workout. This has been happening since the 10.1 update and all subsequent updates have not resolved the issue. I have a Series 8 and the warranty coverage expired literally days before this issue began. I never had a problem in the past and have records of a number of 4+ hour workouts recorded using the same app. It now won't last more than 2 hours. Has anyone else found any kind of solution for this? My watch is only a few months past its 1 year anniversary. This seems like an unreasonably short life span for an expensive product.

Has anyone had any improvements on this?? I haven’t, and I’m so annoyed by this.. I wrote a complaint to Apple and I don’t know what to do next. Any advice would be welcomed.

There have been a number of suggestions made in the 47 pages of this thread. One of them involves removing an app called Moby Face. I suggest you start at the beginning an work your way through.

I purchased a new Apple Watch in the spring of two 2023 and like it very much. However, recently after the latest upgrade in the operating system, the battery drains very quickly. Last night I charged it at 11 PM took it off and by 9 AM This morning the battery had declined from 100% down to 15% with no activity on my part. Trying to figure out what the problem is.
