SMTP servers on MacOS Mail App don't work - can't send an email

Hi all,

I have a problem with sending email from my @icloud.com domain. I still can not send an email. And see the same info:

"Mail was unable to connect to server *** using SSL on the default ports. Verify that this server supports SSL and that your account settings are correct "

Do you please know what I have to change?

Thank you,

Michal

Hi PanOtaznik,

We appreciate you reaching out to us.

We’d like to gather additional details that may help us be in a better position to assist you.

  1. Are you able to send an email through our iCloud page? iCloud.com
  2. Do you have a different Apple device that is signed in to the same Apple ID? If yes, are you experiencing a similar issue with your other device?

To further isolate, let’s test if the issue persists on a newly created user account.

  1. "On your Mac, choose Apple menu > System Settings, then click Users & Groups  in the sidebar. (You may need to scroll down.)
  2. Click the Add Account button below the list of users on the right (you may be asked to enter your password.)
  3. Click the New Account pop-up menu, then choose a type of user.
  4. Enter a full name for the new user. An account name is generated automatically. To use a different account name, enter it now—you can’t change it later.
  5. Enter a password for the user, then enter it again to verify. Enter a password hint to help the user remember their password.
  6. Click Create User."

If you are experiencing the issue when signed in on a different user account, please check if the issue persists while on safe mode. Safe mode does a basic check of your startup disk, similar to using First Aid in Disk Utility.

Performing this step may help resolve the issue, or further isolate the issue.

Please keep us posted.

Take care!

Understood PanOtaznik,

With email working on your other devices and the website, that points to the issue being on the Mac itself. With security software and managed profiles, necessary ports can be blocked - either intentionally or unintentionally. So we would recommend that you get in touch with your company's IT and provide them TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products - Apple Support, then they can check if any of the mail-specific ports are blocked.

Cheers!

Hi, Kamote

thank you for your email and recommendation.

I am adding my problem

  • sending email does not work from MB Air M1 which is owned by the company I work for
  • I can send email via the icloud.com website without any problems
  • I can also send an email from a private iPhone 14Pro and MB Pro without any problems

I also tried your instructions for creating a new user account but the company's security policy does not allow me to do so. I have to ask the Administrator.

In our company, we use Microsoft Defender for protection

Thank you and I look forward to hearing from you

Michal
