My iPad is requesting both update 16.7.2 and 17.1

My iPad won’t download either. My iCloud tab isn’t working, so I can’t backup. How do I fix it?

iPad, iPadOS 16

Your iPad is offering both updates since you have not yet upgraded to iOS 17 and both are available for your device at this time.

You can choose which update you want. You don't need to do both.

If you choose iOS 16.7.2, iOS 17 may stop being available to you for a while.

If you choose iOS 17.1, iOS 16 updates will no longer be available at all.

What exactly happens when you try to update either one?

Do you get an error? If so, what does it say?

What do you mean it switched?

What exactly did you press?

The install buttons for each version are separate if you get offered both versions.

You would have needed to go into the iOS 17 section, first end then press the iOS 17 install button in there.

There's no conceivable way the iOS 16.7.2 update simply installed iOS 17 without you doing anything.

If you only got one install option, it was probably iOS 17 only. As such that is what will install, and would have said as much at the top.

All updates are cumulative. iPadOS 17.1.1 includes all the security and functional updates within iPadOS 16.7.2 and prior updates - along with new/updated features of iPadOS 17.x.

Be aware that iPadOS 16.7.2 is no longer available as an update for iPad devices capable of update to iPadOS 17.x. If not already updated to iPadOS 16.7.2, only iPadOS 17.1.1 will be available to you at this time.
