homekit time-based calculations use phone's location or hub's?

If I am traveling abroad with my phone and have sunrise/sunset automations setup for my homekit accessories, does the system use the hub's location to determine sunset/sunrise, or the phone's location?

Create scenes and automations - Apple Support says - If you set up a home hub, you can trigger an accessory or scene based on the time of day.

I interpret this to mean that it is the device at home and the Home Hub that controls the time of day or other triggers for automated actions and not your roaming iPhone.
