Can’t upgrade OS X

We did a factory reset after upgrading our iMac and not being able to use Word anymore.

it reinstalled OS X (yes it’s old 2013) and now we can’t upgrade the OS at all.

App Store won’t accept my log in even though we’ve changed the password twice!

HELP!

iMac 27″, macOS 10.15

The version of Mac OS X that came with that machine would have been some version of Mountain Lion or Mavericks. If you reinstalled one of those using Internet Recovery, it may be too old to access the App Store links you need for High Sierra, Mojave, or Catalina.

iIn that case, you could try downloading Sierra (whose installer is available as a .DMG file), installing it, then using its versions of Safari and the App Store to complete the upgrade to the desired macOS.
