Can I stop Mail from automatically marking emails as read (when I preview it )?

Can I stop Mail from automatically marking emails as read, after displaying it in preview area, many times mouse just move wrongly over an email and it marked as read , that really conflicting me

how to automatically mark emails as read when highlighted I'm having trouble with emails, on MAIL with the current (and past) MAC OS. I want a mail to change to "read" as soon as I touch it, either for the preview or to open it. Sometimes I don't need to read the email - I can see from the preview that its junk or I can see the entire message and don't need to open and close it. But the only way I am able to mark a message as read is by opening it and leaving it open for some seconds, or using the "mark as read" command (which is ok but its a pain). I could swear there used to be an option of having it marked as read instantly, or after 1 second etc. But I cant find it anymore (I suppose I could be thinking of a different MAIL app). Anyway, having to deal with this really slows me down in processing emails. Any ideas?

How do you turn off the right hand column that appears in Apple Mail when you write a new message. Since this morning, Apple Mail opens a narrow column window to the right of the page when I write a new message. How do you turn it off?

How do I adjust the page size in Mail for writing emails? How can I define the size of the page I get on my screen when opening Mail in order to write an email , please? With kind refgards KINGET [Edited by Moderator]

I know of no way to keep a message from being marked as read when you preview it, but you can exit the preview and mark the message as Unread by using the chord shift-command-u.
