TVOS17.1 volume bar always on screen

Upgraded to TVOS 17.1 today and the volume bar is always on the screen and won’t go away.

my settings on remote and devices under home theater control:

control tv and receivers: on

volume control: receiver via IR.

when I turn it to auto then the option shows up to hide the volume bar, but my receiver doesn’t control the volume.

I found it annoying too. I figured it out though.

No such option “ On-Screen Volume Display: Hide” on the new Appletv 3rd generation.

That option is only visible when Volume Control is set to HDMI (not IR), for select AV receivers and soundbars that support volume control over HDMI-CEC from another device.

Other on-screen volume change indicators are not from Apple TV, but from the TV or audio system, and not influenced by this setting.

If it doesn’t look like a white vertical bar overlay on the right side of the screen, then it is not from Apple TV.

If it makes you feel any better, there have been tons of audio issues, not working at all, only working via headphones, etc., since the 17.1 update, you are not alone! Many thought the 17.1 update from 17.0 would contain a bug fix, but apparently not. There are many things posted in the last 36 hours in the Apple TV threads.

Try headphones as a temp workaround until there’s a solid fix for this annoyingAF bug.

Good luck 😞
