Sync of photos between Mac and iPhone via USB not working.

All the tips on the internet are about iCloud syncing.  I do not use iCloud for my photos and simply sync them between my Mac and my iPhone via a USBC cable.  However, if I delete photos on the mac in the Photos application they do not get deleted on the iPhone when I sync them.  Any suggestions as why not and how to fix?

Thanks.

Yes.

> you deleted Cache at the same time on both devices? and after that you synchronised again over USB? All problems solved at that point?

No, I deleted the cache folder only on the Mac. It contained numerous files and maybe they were corrupted at some point. Syncing re-creates those files and at least lately that has fixed syncing issues.

BTW previously when trying to fix this I have also completely deleted the Photos from the iPad before trying a fresh start at syncing. And with 40 000 files that is time consuming in itself taking about 30 minutes or more. I have done this by creating an empty folder on the Mac and synced that to the iPad. But that often times out leaving still thousands of photos on the iPad so often that must be repeated a few time until the iPad has no images.

I have not yet tried this on Sonoma and the latest iPadOS but I am not holding my breath. The latest iPad Air has USB-C but it has still the same USB2 speed as Lightning so syncing is still quite slow.

I have often had sync problems syncing from Mac Photos library via USB to an iPad.

Sometimes many random images fail to arrive to the iPad, sometimes they arrive as blank images on the iPad.

I have tried almost every voodoo. Reboot before syncing. De-select an updated album on the Mac Photos, sync, re-select that album and sync again. Don't launch or launch Photos and keep it in the background on the Mac while syncing. etc. To make matters worse is that doing a seemingly small album update and then syncing a 400 GB library containing 35 000 images and hundreds of movies is slow and sometimes stalls and often hangs up to 1-2 hours in the end.

Lately, when all else fails, I have taken drastic measures and deleted Photos library/iPod Photo Cache -folder and it has worked for me. But if you try that, make good backups and do not edit any other files inside the library folder! I have all images elsewhere so it is no disaster if the library happens to corrupt.

Thanks. so, like me, things you do in Photos, do not get synchronised to the iPhone (in your case iPad). correct?

So to be clear you deleted Cache at the same time on both devices? and after that you synchronised again over USB? All problems solved at that point?

If you sync photos by cable from a Mac to an iPhone in order to remove that photo from the iPhone you'll need to delete it from the Mac and then resync.

That is what I do, delete on the mac and they do not sync to the iPhone.

That's why I AirDrop photos to my iPhone from my Mac so I can control them on the iPhone like any other photo.

when you say you AirDrop to the iPhone. I suspect you mean you use AirDrop and not a USB cable. so do you sync via AirDrop? Or what do you mean?

OK clear. Where is the Cache located in case you remember?

OK Thanks for that tip.
