Installer Progress is ON after each restart.

My iMac is getting hot and the Fans are on from time to time .

Trying to understand why.

It seems that Installer Progress is ON after each restart.

Don't know what is it and why.

Any advice will ba appreciated.

Turning ON the iMac with "D" pressed - diagnostic result OK.

That is certainly one option, which exact Mac is it?

What shows as bot options if you hold Option key at power up?

Another option...

Start up from macOS Recovery

Option-⌘-R

Upgrade to the latest macOS compatible with your Mac.

In Disk Utility>View, select Show all Devices, highlight the top left entry.

APFS won't work for Sierra or earlier, Sierra or earlier needs MacOS Extended Journaled. High Sierra won't work for APFS on earlier Macs.

What has often worked for others is to use this Restore Method instead of CMD+r keys...

Option-⌘-R

Ok, you have 3 choices, bolded is what I recommend...

 Start up from macOS Recovery

To start up from macOS Recovery, turn on your Mac and immediately press and hold one of the following combinations on your keyboard. Command-R is generally recommended, especially if you never installed macOS Sierra 10.12.4 or later… How to reinstall macOS - Apple Support

Command (⌘)-R

Install the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac.

Option-⌘-R

Upgrade to the latest macOS compatible with your Mac.

Shift-Option-⌘-R

Install the macOS that came with your Mac, or the closest version still available.

Thanks for your reply.

latest installed was macOS.

I didn’t touch this Installer Progress as I don’t know what it is and where is it.

my iMac didn’t make so much restarts.

what can I do know to finish the progress?

ps. Someone advised me to replace the Fusion Drive with an external SSD.

maybe this direction isn’t the solution…

As my Fusion drive seems to be ok. I think that your direction is logical.

Maybe sone software in background is causing the iMac to get hot and Fans ON.

I have an iMac :

After boot with "hold Option key at power up"

After choosing Macintosh HD and filling my username the iMac is "stack" a few moments until showing the desktop icons.

Can I re install ( Upgrade ) to the latest macOS even I have installed already. ?

Thanks.

I did it. Now leaving the iMac a few more hours without touching to fully finish the macOS installation.

I will update.

ps. I’m with internal Fusion Drive 1TB.

connection via thunderbolt (usb-c) to an external SSD Drive LaCie ( migration ) …

will my iMac perform faster ?

Thanks.
