Removing Mouse Acceleration OSX

I'm interested to know how mac OSX mouse acceleration can be DISABLED or CHANGED. I'm using OSX Snow Leapord 10.6.4.

The default axis acceleration is disgusting and makes me nauseous. To be honest I can't believe such a simple thing was so badly F'd up.

Any help is appreciated =]

We are getting off topic, but ok 😉 No problem, I am going to name some, where I think they are OOTB in OSX but not in Windows.

  • Preview, the ability to quickly open most files without launching a program
  • Spaces and Mission Control, ok, I have to edmit. It took pretty long I get used to it. But once you have figured out a good and straight workflow it is your best friend. No substitute in Windows at all!
  • Shortcuts, for example I am able to empty the trash thorugh a shortcut. That is not possible in Windows. And there are many, many good shortcuts in OSX. And the best thing: My Mouse-Gesture prefpane let's me to trigger specific shortcuts. That's awesome!
  • Spotlight, alright, there is a somewhat copy of that in Windows since 7, but it is never as good as the original one
  • Fontbook (OOTB), I use it regularly at work, good stuff
  • Colormanagement, also at work, very easy and seemless workflow, not so in Windows
  • Automator, this is one of the most awesome productivity tweaker in OSX.
  • Finder, once you get used to it, it's better than the Explorer (for example, OOTB FTP integration. God I hat FTP software)
  • Terminal > CMD, it's UNIX so it has to be better 😉
  • iCloud stuff like Adressbook, Calender, Reminders ... whoa that's great stuff!
  • Mail.app - Never wanna miss this dear fellow again

I am sure there is some more stuff. But these ones I can name by heart. Additionally to that I could easily write you a list fit of at least 10 things where 3rd party apps boost productivity in a way, I never could have imagined on Windows. (ClipMenu, Divvy, Alfred, ... to name some )

Preview is a program (yes, not the program the files was made with).

In the Finder, select a file and press spacebar and you won't even have to open Preview.

Thanks a lot! Yes, we went a bit offtopic but that's it, back to mousy stuff :-) Your list helps me figure out what's most seductive about Macs. You yourself are not a valid statistical sample, but hey, I said it's nothing scientific. And as for what @Chris CA said - I guess you didn't mean Preview, but Quick Look (when you press spacebar).

Austria - the Land of Arnold :-D Cheers back from 700 km down south Serbia ;-) I've already posted many impressions on my Facebook profile, but it's all in Serbian. It's probably gonna be a series of humorous video clips: Martin stuck with a Mac (bought half the price - an offer I couldn't refuse), now completely bedazzled like Alice in Wonderland. It took me good 6 moths to get used to it and regain 90% of speed I had on Windows. But at first - I was as fast on this machine as my mom.

When I make those videos (it's gonna be say in a year or so), I'll post the link here.

Hey guys, I haven't read through this whole thread because I didn't have time, but I think I have a solution for all of you with Logitech Mouse users. I no longer notice any mouse acceleration. Make sure that you have Logitech Control Center for Mac OS X installed.

To eliminate mouse acceleration, set your mouse's tracking speed all the way to the left, as it has already been said. Now, enter Logitech Control Center and configure your mouse. Go to the "General" tab, and you should see "Tracking Speed Multiplier." Now you can use this slider to make your mouse track more quickly.

Thank you Dejan for mentioning smoothmouse. Best mouse control ever for Mac.

And screw that It is now deprecated in El Capitan and Sierra, one shouldn't upgrade MacOS anyway, Apple only pile on useless junk (speaking for myself here of course - one mans trash is another mans gold all that *h*t) Smoothmouse works perfectly for me in Yosemite. =)

D*mn, it took me hours of reading this forum due to all these weirdos repeating their useless opinions over and over and over and...

To users like RCR, please stop spamming your thoughts, it is fine you don't agree, but please stop caring so much about sharing your opinion, so that guys like Dejan, who actually comes with solutions to the problem can be seen and heard as well!

My biggest thanks to Eugene ‘Dae’ Zuyev and Daniel ‘apanloco’ Åkerud for their wonderful tool.

Cheers
