Sudden spikes in CPU usage freezing my M2 mac Air 24GB RAM all of sudden in between works making it completely unusable. Please help me fix the issue asap if someone else is facing the issue.

This happens to me too on my MacBook Pro M1 16GB for about three weeks now. I think it did first time several days before I've updated to Sonoma. I hoped the update will fix the issue, but it hasn't.

Although it's Control Centre the one that shows up with high CPU, it seems that the problem is somehow related to Chrome, because it happens at random times when I navigate around tabs.

I'm having the exact same problem on my Macbook M1 8GB, haven't had a clue on even how to google it because it has occurred so randomly. It started for about 2 weeks ago (right before updating to Sonoma) and keeps happening each day. I've had the MacBook for 1 & 1/2 years and its been running flawless until this.

Control center is spiking in RAM usage whenever the freezing starts. Mostly happens when Im using chrome and switching tabs, but has also occurred in Safari and random system apps.

I am having the same problem as well.

MacBook Pro. 16" 2.4GHz i9 64GB RAM

I'm simply playing back a movie and when I switch the AirPods from one pair to another, I get a spinning beachball as the movie is unresponsive (unbelievable) and it eventually comes back. When I check the activity monitor to see what the problem is, 74% CPU usage for the control center which is absurd.

This is a bug.

It's actually a regression because this wasn't happening in the last build.

I set up a new machine yesterday and haven't set up VSCode yet.

I only have chrome, slack and last pass extension set up.

Troubleshooting:

  • Be in google meet in one chrome window signed into google workd account
  • Open new tab in chrome signed into personal google account
  • Click back into work
  • Chrome and Control Centre spike and machine locks up

I disabled lastpass and problem persisted.

This happened on my last machine with an intel chip and my new machine with the M3, 16gb, ventura 13.5
