How many people are using an iPad in sidecar mode? I’ve found that if I disconnect my iPad the problem pretty much goes away.
I found this discussion here, many other people were facing this exact problem: https://www.reddit.com/r/MacOS/comments/17a1eum/control_center_cpu_usage_and_freezes_during_any/
It seems that the solution would be to update Chrome to its latest version (119.0.6045.105). I just did that half an hour ago and everything looks good. Fingers crossed.
it seems to be fixed in the latest Sonoma version 14.1.2 (23B92). The issue appeared to me dozens of times each day, but since yesterday's upgrade I haven't experienced it anymore :fingerscrossed:
Hey there!
Let us know if the issue persists while your Mac is in safe mode: Use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support.

This has somehow become less of an issue for me, after a couple of weeks that were quite bad. It only happens rarely now, once-twice a day max. What I did was to update Chrome to latest version, you should try that too if you haven't yet.
Try and check if chrome video acceleration is off and if so, try and turn it back on
This happens to me too on my MacBook Pro M1 16GB for about three weeks now. I think it did first time several days before I've updated to Sonoma. I hoped the update will fix the issue, but it hasn't.
Although it's Control Centre the one that shows up with high CPU, it seems that the problem is somehow related to Chrome, because it happens at random times when I navigate around tabs.
I'm having the exact same problem on my Macbook M1 8GB, haven't had a clue on even how to google it because it has occurred so randomly. It started for about 2 weeks ago (right before updating to Sonoma) and keeps happening each day. I've had the MacBook for 1 & 1/2 years and its been running flawless until this.
Control center is spiking in RAM usage whenever the freezing starts. Mostly happens when Im using chrome and switching tabs, but has also occurred in Safari and random system apps.
Hi there!
I have the same problem as others describe with my M1 Macbook Pro.
After the update to macOS 14, it has started freezing with just opened the Chrome browser. When I switch to Activity Monitor everything backs to normal and I just see a spike in the CPU Load dropped down on a chart and Control Center on the red.
I am having the same problem as well.
MacBook Pro. 16" 2.4GHz i9 64GB RAM
I'm simply playing back a movie and when I switch the AirPods from one pair to another, I get a spinning beachball as the movie is unresponsive (unbelievable) and it eventually comes back. When I check the activity monitor to see what the problem is, 74% CPU usage for the control center which is absurd.
This is a bug.
It's actually a regression because this wasn't happening in the last build.
I set up a new machine yesterday and haven't set up VSCode yet.
I only have chrome, slack and last pass extension set up.
Troubleshooting:
I disabled lastpass and problem persisted.
This happened on my last machine with an intel chip and my new machine with the M3, 16gb, ventura 13.5
Do any of you guys work with VSCode by chance? I'm a FE developer, maybe there are some browser extensions or some node/ts-related stuff we have in common that may be causing this.
Yes you are right. Same issues.
Its very difficult to work now with this. Entire laptop freezes during important meetings. I updated to M2 mac 24GB Last month for performance. And I am stuck now with this issue.
Nowhere in internet I could find solutions.
This problem not's related to vscode, chrome, or any software. It's any bug from Mac OSX.
You can just start the computer, without opening anything, and your computer will have a high CPU usage with FAN at full speed.
