Ios 17.2 messages crash with only one contact

I’m on ios 17.2 and everything was fine until today’s morning. The were 4 messages in notifications from my wife, I clicked on the first one to get forwarded to the messages app and then it crashed.

There was nothing strange in her message, not codes or smth - just some home tasks info.

I’ve opened the messages manually, read several messages from other contacts but when I’ve tried to open the thread with my wife it crashed again.

I’ve tried deleting the thread, turning iMessages on and off - it didn’t help.

Then I tried to create a new thread - but I can’t. The moment I type in my wife’s number - the app crashes.

But I can send her pictures or links via Share function.

I have also restarted my device - nothing changed.

How to fix this?

My advice to you is ALWAYS delete messages after 30 days. ALSO you can do this manually and you can go to settings>messages>scroll to keep messages for 30 days. BUT a cool tip is everyday do this check the box keep messages forever then check keep messages for 30 days and itll literally delete messages older than 30 days that may be stuck on the server end.

Just updated to 17.3 bеtа and everything works fine. So the problem is indeed in 17.2

My message app became active after three days on 17.2. I think it was because I had 1000 saved unknown text which I had now deleted it’s not 17.2. It’s my housekeeping!

Same here man ever since I updated to the recent latest ios 17.2 update my phone call apps and messages crash and I can barely be on a phone call because 10 to 15 seconds it crashes and if I open it back it freezes. Hopefully a newer update fixes the bug issue.

I started having the same issues of phone calls freezing. Happened with multiple callers during the day. A restart dis not fix this. The dynamic island was showing open padlock with the phone call app frozen.

What is Apple doing about this?

I had the isuue after upgrade my son's iphone 15. The screen frozen, no touching, no wifi. It was impossible restore the device by iTunes or keys combination for restart the phone, the only showed the message was "DFU condition" on iTunes. I went to Apple Store where the support team restore the previous version. Now, my son's iphone is ok, but lot of concerns to upgrade the rest of the family. So, I'll keep my current version until apple release a new firmware to fix 17.2 version.
