After upgrading my MacBook Air, continue to get the message when trying to view latest photos "Syncing with iCloud Paused - Mac Needs to Cool Down" even though it is NOT running hot, there are little to know apps, processes running that would even cause this issue. Only solution seems to be reboot or revisit Photos from my desktop another day (or view on my phone or iPad).

It seems to be the fan speed that puts it into cooldown mode, I downloaded an app where I can control the fan speed, and when I put the fan speed on high, Photos says Mac needs to cool down. It seems to be regardless of the processor temperature. So I manually locked my fan speed into 3000, and now it's syncing. The CPU temperature seem to be sitting in the 60 to 70° range and not getting any hotter so I'm gonna call that a win. Apple should really not be referencing the fan speed, it should be referencing the temperature of the sensors.
I'm having same issue even when it's ice cold with ceiling fan blowing straight down on it with it open and propped up under my monitor with plenty of air flow. I would include a pic, but it won't let me see it. LOL
I had this issue back in April/ May after upgrading the software on my main Mac - the fan was running so hot I thought the Mac was about to explode. But have noticed things have settled now and have not had a repeat of the issue. Was this due to a subsequent IOS upgrade at all? Anyone know since Apple seem to have gone mute on this issue.
Getting sick of this as well. I can run any other program that would slam the CPU with no issues, but with almost nothing running on my computer it still thinks it is too hot just to get a few files off the cloud. What a PITA...

I'm getting the same message on a 2019 MacBook Air (1.6GHz, 13in). The fan isn't running and the Air does not feel hot to the touch. My short-term solution is to pop the Air in the freezer for 10 minutes. I get about 10 minutes use of Photos, then have to repeat. It's infuriating as I'm studying and need to access Photos to complete my case studies.
I just updated and now I’m getting this, my mac has been much hotter and still worked for more intense uses. Let us use the hardware we pay thousands for! What a terrible company they are going the way of Microsoft.
I must reiterate Sonoma 14.6.1 is a real problem with a MacBook Pro 16 inch 2019.
Now for the pass month, I cannot synch iphotos because the the Mac is running hot!
However, I use TGP and ALL is cool! So to reiterate APPLE you are crippling those with INTEL i9s. Please fix!!! See below status read out of my Mac.
Secondly: My prior posts documented a clear bug in Apple not updating older GPUs which stopped working for Adobe Lightroom with Sonoma. My AMD Radeon Pro 5500M 8 GB is NOT supported in Lightroom. I have been on the phone with both apple and Adobe support. It is a bug...who will fix it????
I am getting this error on 2020 iMac. Some stupid Apple glitch they need to fix.
