Lost password and recovery key

Somehow my password changed so I tried to reset but when I put in Apple ID to reset and enter recovery phone number it asks for the 28 disgorge recovery key. Apple does not provide enough warning about this recovery key so a saved it in notes as logically assumed that was safe! But of coarse I can no longer get to notes to access the recovery key because I don’t know the password and the recovery number does not offer any other option. Is my email and recovery key lost forever if not how do I reset my Apple ID?

This isn’t good news … but …

Without a trusted device … and without a password … and without a recovery key your AppleID is forever inaccessible.

“… if you lose your recovery key and can’t access one of your trusted devices, you'll be locked out of your account permanently …”

Note: Use of a recovery key is entirely optional and indeed carries significant risk.
