Files > iCloud Drive - "Your device couldn't connect to the server. There may be a problem with the server or network."

When using the Files app and selecting the iCloud Drive location, I am unable to open any files while using cellular data. This is the only app that is giving me issues when using cellular data. When I am on wifi I can open files with no problems.

IOS: 17.1 (up to date as of this post)

iPhone: iPhone 11

Steps I've tried:

  1. Restart iPhone
  2. Airplane mode then reconnecting
  3. Manually toggle cellular on and off
  4. Confirmed Cellular data is on
  5. Disconnect from VPN (I can access files using the VPN as long as I am on wifi. While on cellular data I cannot access files with the VPN on or off. I have never had any issues with my VPN using any other apps on my phone.)
  6. I can access iCloud Drive using web browser and the iCloud for Windows program.
  7. Tried different locations (at work and at home)

iPhone 11, iOS 17

I scrolled to cellular data and Files was turned on but iCloud Drive wasn’t! I turned iCloud Drive on but still didn’t work. Then I restarted my phone and now it’s working great. Thank you for your help you solved the problem!🙏🙏

Files > iCloud Drive - ‘Your device couldn't connect to the server. There may be a problem with the server or network.: Thank you for the suggestion. I confirm iCloud Drive is turned on. The Files app does not show in Settings > my name > iCloud.

You are welcome.

See if this does the trick…

  1. Go to: Settings
  2. Tap: Cellular
  3. Scroll: to CELLULAR DATA
  4. Tap: Files (so this it is green)
  5. Tap: iCloud Drive (so that it is green)

The Littles I have a similar problem to Yookie except I don't use a vpn nor use wi-fi. I can't open files via iPhone they are showing encrypted. I also can access iCloud Drive using a web browser. Within Settings, Cellular Data is missing Files to toggle on. I don't have another device.

Do you see the same as this…
